Life Lately

One of my favorite Christmas gifts so far...

Apple 3 Series Watch

Our new favorite pizza...

This pizza is absolutely fabulous! I will buy it again and again. No one would ever
guess that it is gluten free. It really is good!

In other news...

We are almost done with taking down our Christmas decor. It's nice to get
things fresh and clean, but the house seems so dark and gloomy without all
the pretty twinkling Christmas lights.

We have one more Christmas celebration before we wrap up our Christmas
season. We are celebrating with my parents this weekend and I'm super
excited about spending the day with them.

I hope you all are enjoying your holiday season and want to wish you a very
Happy New Year!!!

I will plan to see you all again next Wednesday with a workout!

Something To Think About Before Setting Goals For 2018

You know what time it is. As December winds down and we start to put away our
Christmas decor to declutter and freshen our space for the new year, we also start to
think about the goals we want to set and the things we want to change and improve
in 2018.

Probably the majority of people are thinking about setting goals for diets, weight
loss, and work outs. Before you waste time setting more of those lofty, unrealistic,
and unhealthy goals, let me offer something to think about...

I am not talking about an allergy or medical condition that requires you to avoid
a certain food. I am talking about those diets that say that you can't eat fruit because
it has sugar. I am referring to the diets that make you eliminate all carbs, or all fats,
or whatever the case may be.

This brings me to my next point....
Y'all it really is this straight forward. Eat a variety of proteins, fruits, vegetables,
carbs, and fats. Then make sure you work out as often as you can, doing an exercise
that you enjoy.

If you do those things regularly, without "going on" or "going off" a plan, you will
reach a healthy weight and feel good.

Do you need to join XYZ gym, or buy This or That meal plan, or use a cetain
supplement each day to magically reach a healthy weight?

Remember this...

A good diet is one that you can do today, tomorrow, next week, and next year. Sure, maybe
you can cut all carbs and lose weight fairly quickly. Should you do that? In my opinion,
no. Why not? Because how long are you really going to be able to live like that? And
when you are completely sick of living like that, you all know what will happen.

The weight will come right back and bring additional weight back with it.

So what should we do to be healthier and reach a healthy weight that is maintainable?

Stop jumping on the latest diet craze and simply make healthier choices.

Do you drink a soda each day? If so, change that to a soda a week, and drink more
water instead.

Do you eat fast food a couple of times a week? If so, have it only one time
every other week.

Focus on eating more foods that are high in vitamins and nutrients. Put some thought
into your meal planning so you don't find yourself in the kitchen with a bag of chips
or cookies while you stress over dinner.

Yes I am talking to myself here too. I definitely need to take my own advice!

But at the same time...

I don't know about you, but I want more out of life that constantly thinking about
diets and exercise plans. Yes, those things are important, and yes you will see both
of them from this blog in 2018, but I also want to focus on the bigger picture.

I want to make a habit in 2018 of counting my blessings each and every day. I have
already bought a notebook that I want to write down things I am grateful for each

This next idea is so powerful to me.

In a world that is so driven by social media, and women are know by their ability to
create a perfectly decorated and clean home, or a perfectly coordinated and fashionable
outfit, by having a hairstyle that always looks like they spend hours each day in a salon,
and makeup that looks like it was done by a celebrity makeup artist, I believe that I would
rather be described this way...

In 2017, our world proved that we need to see so much more of this.

Let's be kind to ourselves, and be kind to others in 2018. Let's keep the love
and magic that we feel at Christmastime alive all year.

So Many Friday Favorites!

Hello all and welcome to Friday Favorites!

Can you believe we are only 3 days away from Christmas?

Gosh, that means that this time next week, it will be time to take all of this down.
So sad! This view has been one of my favorite things for weeks now, and I am
really going to miss the twinkle of the lights.

I mentioned yesterday that I am loving this Barnie's Santa's White Christmas coffee.
I'm going to miss drinking Christmas in a cup once it's gone.

Miss S straightened my hair for me this week and I am loving it!

I got so many compliments on it, that I suppose I am going to have to figure out
how to do this for myself. When my hair is straightened you would never guess
that its natural state is frizzy wild and crazy!

I mentioned these printable calendars last year when I shared them with you
in this post. I printed all 12 out and hung them on the side of my refrigerator
and enjoyed using them all of 2017.

Well here they are again! Click here to see this beautiful set of FREE printable
calendars in your choice of desk calendar OR wall calendar and all ready to print
for 2018.

Here is a sneak peek of how beautiful they are...

I mentioned earlier in the week that Hubby and I were celebrating our 25th wedding
anniversary on Tuesday. I requested a quiet night in with dinner and a movie.

Our night was perfect already, and then he surprised me with this amazing gift...

I have been dreaming of this bag for years and my wonderful husband surprised
me with it for our 25th! Nothing says Happy 25th like Louis Vuitton, am I right?!

And most importantly, my favorite thing forever and always is our little family!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Movies, Coffee, and a Nap

Christmas Eve is coming soon.... literally, and I have not watched even one
of my favorite movies for this time of year. I have watched most new movies
on the Hallmark Channel, but I am way behind on my other yearly favorites.

I have got to get focused because there are 5 movies that I just can't miss
watching at Christmas time. They are...

Home Alone

Christmas Vacation

Christmas with the Kranks

The Santa Clause

I may not have watched my favorite movies yet, but I have been drinking one of
my favorite Christmas coffees.

This one is really hard to find in decaf, so when I found it at Publix while grocery
shopping on Tuesday, I quickly grabbed a bag and tossed it in the shopping cart.
Why didn't I grab 2? Well, that is a question I am still asking myself!

Last night while I was watching a movie on Hallmark, I looked over to see Hunter
napping like this...

How can that be comfortable?

If you are wondering about Roo, he is hidden in the pile of blankets that you see
on the floor. Roo would rather be hidden under blankets that anywhere else in
the house.

On Facebook this morning, this photo popped up in my news feed as a memory from
2 years ago...

Just look at our sweet Rusty and Drake.

Here is a similar pose we took this year at Thanksgiving.

(I had hoped to use this picture to make into a Christmas card this year,
but it just didn't happen. I hope friends and family will understand that we just
had too much going on with getting Miss S healthy and through her finals to
even think about ordering and addressing cards.)

But I am happy that we were able to take the picture. It's amazing how much has
changed in 2 years.

I love our little family! Too bad we couldn't get Miss Shelley in the
picture too. We all know cats can't be bothered by such things as family
photos, ha ha.

Can you all believe Christmas Eve is coming on Sunday?

What are your favorite movies to watch during Christmas time?

Have an awesome day!

Reindeer Food ~ Recipe and Printable!

On the night of Christmas Eve, Santa and his team deliver gifts and goodies to children
around the world in one night! Leave cookies and milk out for Santa, and don’t forget
about the reindeer! Guide Rudolf and his team to your home this Christmas Eve with
Personal Creations’ fun reindeer food and adorable poem printables.

With oats, sprinkles and a pinch of sugar, create a special treat the kids can leave out
the night before Christmas. This is the perfect way to say “thank you” to all of Santa’s
hard-working helpers.

With a few ingredients you likely already have on hand already, this special mixture
takes only a few minutes to assemble. Once you have your reindeer food, sprinkle onto
your yard and await the morning for a special surprise: presents under the tree!

Here are the ingredients you will need:

1/2 cup uncooked oats

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 to 1/2 cup red and green sugar crystals/sprinkles

5×7 clear cellophane bag

Click here to see the detailed instructions and fun poems and printables. Not only will
you find a reindeer poem, you will also find a fun poem for both Santa and his elves.

I think these little crafts are just so simple and cute. What a fun memory to make with
your little ones this year. If you don't have a little one of your own, this would
be a fun craft for a Sunday School class too.

Have a wonderful day and I will see you again on Thursday!

I'm Thankful and Home Sweet Home

I am so thankful to be home sweet home today. I am also thankful to have this beautiful
view AND that Miss S is home for 3 weeks!

I think these 2 are also happy to have Mommy and Sissy home!

This was our view on Friday as we headed out of Auburn when Fall semester final exams
were done.

I was so relieved that Miss S was done and would be home for 3 weeks.

(I am trying really hard not to think about how heartbroken I am going to feel
when she has to go back in January.)

I am thankful that she is feeling better. The combo of flu, mono, urinary tract
infection, and pink eye in both eyes just about did us all in. That was a scary 2
weeks. Now I just need to make her rest and take care of herself so we won't
ever have a repeat of that.

(I'm so thankful that I was able to stay with her and nurse her back to health,
and that she was well enough to get those finals behind her!)

Thankfully, the only sickness I got from being in and out of doctors and
hospitals with Miss S was just a cold. Thankfully I am feeling okay now, except
for having laryngitis. I have not been able to speak a sound in 5 days now.

Y'all! This is so frustrating!!

Miss S can hear my whispers and understand my charades but poor Hubby is
completely lost. He can't hear me, he can't figure out what I am trying to say,
and we are both getting quite annoyed.

But, I know we will get through this in a few days and things and will have
something to laugh about.

It seems like our anniversary is a prime time for something crazy to happen!

Tomorrow will be our 25th wedding anniversary and I have no voice! Won't
that be a fun time?!

This makes me think of our 13th wedding anniversary when I had just had surgery
to have my gallbladder removed and was in pain, and then he and Miss S both
came down with the stomach virus. I remember a sweet friend from church
stopped by and dropped off Charmin and Lysol on our porch, lol!
What an anniversary memory!

With that story in mind, I think I don't feel quite as upset about my laryngitis!

We celebrated our anniversary with my parents yesterday after church. We all
went to lunch and they brought this beautiful cake for our dessert.

My wonderful parents also gave us a very nice and much needed gift. After 25 years
of cooking, our cookware had seen better days. They got us an amazing new set of

So, even though I can't talk and communicate with the people I love, I would say
we had a pretty good weekend overall. With homecomings, gifts, and cake, our
weekend couldn't have been too bad, ha ha!

How was your weekend?

Have you ever had laryngitis?

What are you thankful for today?

See you tomorrow!

( I'm linking up here and here today. )

It's Finally Here ~ Our Holiday Home!

Y'all get excited!

I finally got myself together enough to take some photos to share with you
of our home decorated for Christmas.

I am so glad you are here today to see our holiday home!

Our family room...

Also in the family room is the table Hubby built for me all decorated for Christmas...

Our dining room got a beautiful new flocked Christmas tree this year...

I had intended to find a white fur tree skirt for the bottom of the tree, but just
never got that done. I will be on the lookout next year, for sure.

The decor in the kitchen was kept super simple this year with just a cute little tree
in my coffee corner...

This was the tree that was in our dining room last year, but I moved it into our
master bedroom this year. I had intended to add a tree skirt here as well, but
life had other, more important plans for me.

Our decor was only about 80% done this year, but when a nurse calls you from your
daughter's cell phone to let you know your child has collapsed and is being
taken by ambulance to the hospital, suddenly things like tree skirts, and more
garland and lights hop in the backseat really, really quickly.

I pray ALL of that is behind us now and we will have a calm and peaceful
holiday season.

Miss S and I are heading back to Auburn today. She has an exam tonight,
and then one tomorrow. After that, she is officially finished with Fall
Semester! Praise the Lord! We spent several days and nights during the
past few weeks really, really thinking that she would not be well enough
to complete this semester. We are so thankful that God hears and answers

I hope you enjoyed our mostly finished, "good enough for this year"
Christmas home tour.

I will see you again next week!
