Three Things Thursday

Happy Thursday to you, and happy LAST day of June!

How's your week going? We are knee deep in pill giving and eye cleaning over here. Drake
is too smart for his own good and knows when medicine is coming his way. The protest
begins the moment you tell him to "sit." He clamps his jaws shut and the battle begins. By
the time the ordeal is done, you have broken a sweat and have doggie slobber up your forearms.
And that is just to get two pills to go down. Applying ointment to both of his eyes is another
event all its own. Drake is smart, and strong, so the procedure goes much smoother with two
people. I try to wipe his eyes clean by myself during the day and usually have no luck at all.
This dog is my heart, but he is wearing us out!

How about we move on to other non-doggie related topics?

- one -

The weather has been hot, humid, and ridiculous.

My car was saying 102 degrees yesterday. Yikes. If you don't have a body of water
near by, then it is just too hot to be outside!

- two -

We took a tiny break from doggie drama and extreme heat to make Homemade Oreo Ice Cream.
It was out of this world amazing, and is our best ice cream recipe so far.

We used our simple recipe and added everything to the maker and mixed well.
(Everything except the ice and rock salt, of course!)

In about an hour, we were enjoying delicious homemade ice cream.

- three -

I took a little field trip to Target after work yesterday and found lots of temptation,
as usual.

Look at this cute little notebook/journal.

I love the quote! What a great reminder that our attitude has a lot to do with the amount
of fun that we have in our life. This made me stop and think about my perspective on
some things that's for sure. Who knew I would receive a life lesson in Target on a random
Wednesday?! :)

Also, once again, Target's pillow game is strong. How cute are these?

If I find an extra $50 laying around, I will be bringing home some new pillows!

How are you staying cool during the summer heat?

Have you made homemade ice cream yet this summer?

Does Target make you wish you had extra cash laying around?

Have a great day and I will see you tomorrow. (July 1st!)

Quickie Red Eye Update

Yesterday, I mentioned that Drake now has another issue that we are facing.

We tried to treat his sad, pitiful, blood red eyes as allergies by giving him Benedryl, but
after treating him with the Benedryl during the day yesterday, by late afternoon, I finally
convinced Hubby that what we were dealing with was more than allergies. Sometimes
mommy's just know these things and know when an illness is more than "just allergies."

We called the vet and were given an eye ointment to treat his infection. Yes, one more
medicine to give, (and for 14 days,) but I am relieved that we now have what we need to
help him get well. He does not like ointment being put in those eyes at all. Our poor baby
boy has been poked, prodded, and pitiful for way too long. He deserves to be healthy and
happy! I sure hope we are headed in that direction now.

Happy Tuesday to you, and I will see you on Thursday for Three Things

T is for Tired, O is for Overwhelmed, F is for Fashionista

Life is one big hot mess at our house right now.

We thought we had faced the worst and would soon be back to sunshine and
rainbows, but life had to turn the tables on us. Yes, we are so blessed and thankful
that Drake doesn't have cancer. Yes, we absolutely believe that we were given a
miracle, when we got the test results of no cancer. But man, are we having
lots of little bumps in the road in the aftermath of our miracle.

As a part of Drake's hypothyroidism treatment, he takes two pills a day. With
the prostititus treatment, he has been taking 5 pills a day. He was taking those pills
like a champ. Put a pill in a piece of hot dog, and those pills were gone in a flash.
Well, I suppose it was only a matter of time before a very intelligent Labrador retriever
caught on to the fact that something foreign was in his hot dog. Now he chews in tiny
little bites, then swallows the hot dog, and spits the pill out on the floor. He is even
skeptical now about eating his food because he is suspicious that an antibiotic may be
lurking in his food bowl.

Then yesterday, we noticed a whole new problem. In addition to his constipation, and
taking 20+ minutes to attempt to go to the bathroom, every 2-3 hours day AND NIGHT,
trying to keep him comfortable and pain free since his surgery on Thursday, and he also
suddenly stops cooperating in taking his medicines.

But that's not all...

Look at these red eyes!

Poor baby now has pink eye???

I can't even look at him without almost bursting into tears. He looks pitiful.

Hubby is hopefully going to be able to get some eye drops without having to
load him up and haul him back in to see the vet.

I almost forgot to mention that every animal in my house is sneezing and
snorting. The cat is sneezing, the dachshund is sneezing, and poor Drake
has so much going on, it's hard to keep it all straight.

This mama is TIRED.

This mama is OVERWHELMED.

This mama needs a healthy family, and a happy, restful vacation!

Ok, before I complain, and whine, and drown this post in sleep deprived tears,
I will stop, and post a cute picture of my fashionista daughter!

I will not talk about how she will be moving away to college in 57 weeks.
I will not admit, that I actually counted to see how much time I have left with
her at home, I will just post a pic of her in her cute little romper and sandals.

This is what you look like when you are only 17, and get plenty of sleep!
Her life is good! ;)

This is what you look like when you are tired, overwhelmed, and in need of
a vacation...

In my defense, it has been 95+ degrees with 2000% humidity lately.

I will try to get myself together and see you tomorrow with less frazzle, whining,
and complaining.

Weekend Plans

What are your plans for the weekend?

Today, I will most likely spend the day taking care of Drake. His surgery went well
yesterday, but he of course is not feeling like his normal self quite yet. He woke me
up at 12:30 and again at 3:30 to go outside, but I really think he wanted love and
attention even more than he wanted to go outside. He will be on pain meds for three
days and will continue his antibiotic duo for 6 - 8 weeks. He is beginning to eat and
drink normally today, so hopefully he will be feeling more like himself very soon.

Luckily I have a home gym, so there will be no excuses for skipping a workout.
I've been skipping too many lately and need to nip that bad habit in the bud!

Hubby will probably play golf, although I don't know how he can stand the heat,
and Miss S is most likely making plans with her friends as I type this post.

So it looks like as of right now, the only plans that I have are mommy/fur baby
time, cleaning the house, and watching Big Brother on Sunday night.

I've got to put on my thinking cap. I need to find something more fun to do than that!

Check back Monday, and see what actually happens this weekend. Will it be lots
of pictures of fur babies, and laundry, or will I get out and do something fun???

I can hardly wait to find out! ;)

What do you usually do on the weekends? Do you keep a pretty typical schedule,
or do you try something new and different every weekend?

Whatever you do, I hope it's a great one!

Three Things Thursday

Hello and Happy Thursday to you!

Let's get started with...

- one -

My sweet boy is having his surgery today to be "fixed."  The words "spay"
and "neuter" sound so scary, so I prefer to keep it light-hearted and use the term

In my opinion, if something is making my boy sick, then it needs to go. It's a no brainer. I
want my boy healthy and happy for years to come. After his surgery today, he will continue
to take the Cipro and Bactrum antibiotics for several weeks to completely clear the infection
in his prostate, but we feel confident and have faith that he is now on the road to full recovery,

The house is SO quiet without him here though, Rusty and Shelley don't know what to do
when the big ball of energy and excitement isn't here to stir things up.

Rusty and Shelley may have to learn to play together for the day! :)

- two -

Miss S has been a busy bee this summer. Last week she helped with Vacation Bible School,
and had her Senior portrait taken for the school yearbook. This week she has been
babysitting everyday. She did however make time to head to the movies yesterday
afternoon to see Finding Dory with her friend SC.

After everyone was home last night, we watched the first night of Big Brother 18! There
are so many interesting personalities in this cast, that we haven't quite picked our favorites
yet. It will be on again tonight at 8:00, and we will be watching as the first house guest
of the summer gets evicted. So much drama and excitement in each episode!

- three -

I read an interesting article this week that I wanted to share. As a personal trainer, I am
frequently asked, "What can I do to tone up my stomach?" My  number one answer to that
question is almost always, "planks." (No one wants to hear that abs are 80% made in the

The title of the article is...

Apparently the Army is phasing out the use of sit-ups in their training programs and in
their physical fitness tests.

The Army now believes that "sit-ups can be harmful and there are better ways to
condition and strengthen the core."

In almost 5 years of personal training, I have never once had a client do a sit-up.
There are so many better options available.

I typically have my clients do ab/core exercises like these...

Here is an infographic to go with the article. You can pin it and read the article
later if you are short on time.

What are your go to ab exercises?

What movies have you seen lately?

Are you watching Big Brother this summer?

Have a great day, and I will see you tomorrow.

Tuesday Talk

Happy Tuesday everyone!

We are super excited over here because this is happening tomorrow night...

Totally one of our favorite parts of summer. We have been counting down the
days. So much craziness packed into one show.

Also, around our house this week, this is what's for dinner...

And one more thing worth noting...

I am going to test out a new blogging schedule for a couple of weeks to
see how it goes. Let's try this 4 times per week blog schedule and see how
it goes...

I will be posting on these days:

You are probably hearing enough from me in 4 days anyway, ha!

Thanks for reading today, and I will see you again on Thursday!

Weekend Recap

{ Friday }

Friday, when Miss S finished helping with Vacation Bible School, we met up for
lunch. We tried a new-to-us restaurant, that has been open for about a month,

As we were seated, our waiter brought us water in a fancy bottle to enjoy while
we looked over the menus.

I ordered the Cobb Salad, which was delicious. It came topped with cucumber, avocado,
small scoops of egg salad, and chicken salad, ham, cheese, carrots, tomato, and bacon.

Miss S ordered the Mac -n- Cheese topped with braised pork. She loved it and wished
that we had a cooler with us so that she could have brought her leftovers home. She
was served such a large portion that she hardly made a dent in it!

Friday afternoon, we picked up my car from the shop (yay!), and also got some really
GREAT news about Drake!

Our big, beautiful, boy does NOT have cancer!

We are SO relieved! He will need to stay on antibiotics for a couple more weeks to take care
of the severe infection in his prostate, and will need to have surgery to be "fixed,"
because his problems seem to be testosterone driven. We are just thrilled that he will
soon be all well, and will be with us a lot longer.  This big teddy bear has my heart and
I don't like it when he is sick!

{ Saturday }

Saturday was filled with lots of fun things...

Miss S slept in until almost lunch time, and then we ventured out to Target, Starbucks
and TJ Maxx.

Miss S was shopping for new gym clothes and did find a couple of things she
needed, but also fell in love with a jacket that she really didn't need...

My girl loves to shop and forgets sometimes that her budget is not endless!

{ Sunday }

Sunday was Father's Day and our whole family came to church with us. After
church we went to Logan's for lunch, and even remembered to snap a couple of
pictures after we ate.

Me with my dad on Father's Day...

Miss S with her Daddy and Papa on Father's Day...

We had a good weekend celebrating Father's Day and also celebrating that our chocolate
lab will soon make a full recovery and be happy and healthy for years to come.

God is good and I am so thankful that our weekend was filled with lots of love and
good news!

How was your weekend? Did you do something special?

I'll see you tomorrow!

P.S. I'm linking up with Katie, so pop over and check out the other link ups!

Thursday Update

I am so thankful today that my gorgeous boy seems to be feeling a little better!

He saw a new vet on Tuesday morning for an ultrasound, and the vet also sent the
test results to Auburn's vet school to be checked for a second opinion. Both doctors
feel that we need to treat him for prostatitis right now and see if his symptoms improve.
Before this diagnosis, I had never even heard of prostatitus, but we were absolutely
thrilled to hear ANY diagnosis other than the one we were most afraid of  hearing.

Drake is now on Previcox for pain/inflammation once a day, and on two antibiotics,
Cipro and Bactrum, twice a day, and if his symptoms improve, then he will be scheduled
for a little surgery to help him avoid having any problems in the future. We did not realize
that many large dogs that mature without being "fixed" can have prostrate trouble. So if
your baby is a large breed male dog, please ask your vet if they need "the surgery."

We want to do everything we can to help our boy live many more healthy years, so if
medicine and "fixing" him will do that, then I am ALL IN!

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, and we are hopeful that he is now on
the path of living many more healthy, happy years with us. He will see the new vet
again in a week for a re-check, and we are praying we get good news!

I am hoping that maybe Miss S can clear a place in her social schedule to spend
some time with me tomorrow so I will see you on Monday, and will get back to a
regular blogging schedule then.

Happy Thursday!

Weekend Recap....Puppy Love and Couch Potatoes

Lots of time was spent at home this weekend.

Miss S was with friends most of the day on Friday, but was home in time for
dinner with the family, and stayed in for some family t.v. time. We started watching
Friday Night Lights on Netflix.

I have such mixed feeling on this show. It is sad and depressing, but gripping and
even funny at times. The little town in Texas is obsessed with its high school football
team, and on numerous occasions I have found myself telling a few of the characters
to "get a life!"

I also caught up on a couple of Hallmark Movies on my DVR.

I watched these two...

Hubby and Miss S are not huge Hallmark movie watchers, so I arranged myself
in a comfy spot on the couch with my boys and enjoyed the light, happy (or as
Hubby would say, sappy) movies.

Drake took some really good naps while I watched my movies...

On Sunday afternoon, I watched two new episodes of Open Concept on HGTV.

Whitney and Ashley are sisters that blog and build over at Shanty 2 Chic.

The pilot episode of their show aired in September, and finally episode 2 and 3 aired
on Sunday. Their show is absolutely the best thing on HGTV right now. I was thrilled
that I stumbled upon them Sunday afternoon. If you can catch the show when it replays,
you have to watch. Their home transformations are absolutely beautiful and they build
almost all of the furniture that they use in the home makeovers themselves. They even put
the plans up on their blog, so you can build the projects for yourself if you want.

You may be wondering why I spent so much time inside and watching t.v.

Well, besides the fact that the weather outside was a steamy, humid, torturous, 96 degrees,
I also wanted to spend LOTS of quality time with my boys.

Drake has not been himself for about a month now, and we found out Friday
afternoon that he has a large cyst that is pressing on his prostate and also causing
narrowing of his colon. (hence the tummy troubles he has been having)

We are not sure of details yet. He is scheduled to have an ultrasound done tomorrow
to learn more. Right now, he is showing all the signs of prostate cancer, but we have
also learned that the cyst can make a dogs body mimic all the same signs.

We are not sure what this week will hold, and if this will be treatable, or if we may
soon be saying goodbye to our son. He is so much more than a dog to us. He is like
a child. He is family. He is my best friend. He is my big, cuddly teddy bear that
takes every step I take each day. He guards me while I vacuum to make sure the noisy
machine isn't going to hurt me. He watches me, and walks with me, and lays beside me
every moment that I am home.

Needless to say this weekend has been filled with lots of emotion. Lots of hugs, snuggles,
and tears.

In addition to the emotion we are feeling about Drake and his health, we are also
emotional because Miss S will be taking her Senior portraits at school this week.

The blog will probably be a little quiet during this time.

If I have good news, I will certainly pop on and share it, but if we are still
in emotional limbo, I probably will spend time either loving on and comforting
Drake, or trying to distract myself enough that I can get through the week.

Thank you for reading each day, and I will be back in a few days. Any good thoughts
and prayers that you can offer at this time is much appreciated.

Friday Favorites

Hello Friday!

I don't know about you, but I am so happy that it is Friday again. This has been
a crazy, hectic, unorganized, all over the place kind of week around here and I
am happy that the weekend is finally back. I am ready to slow down, rest, and
relax for a bit. I'm also looking forward to having a little fun and sharing some
Friday Favorites with you today. Let's get started!

- one -

My favorite pet pic of the week goes to this little doxie. I love that I was able to
capture this picture. Sometimes it is difficult to get good pictures of fur babies, but
this one makes my heart happy. I love this little guy!

- two -

Making homemade Butterfinger ice cream Sunday afternoon was my favorite family
time activity from the week. I am telling you, my recipe is so easy and delicious, there is
never a need to buy store bought ice cream again.

Here is my recipe:

We simply added the first six ingredients to the ice cream maker, mixed them together
briefly, and turned the ice cream maker on. In about 90 minutes we had out of this world
delicious homemade Butterfinger ice cream. Who needs Dairy Queen with a recipe
this good?!

- three -

We are Clif bar fans in this house. For a long time Peanut Butter has been our favorite
flavor, but for the past few weeks, we have been loving this one...

Chocolate Brownie.....need I say more?!  ;)

- four -

Miss S and her friends have been on a Skinny Pop snack kick lately. If you have to
feed teenage girls any time soon, you may want to try this popcorn because it is all
the rage right now. I haven't tried it yet, but they really seem to love it.

- five -

My favorite snack this week is the new Greek yogurt from Yoplait.

Strawberry Lemonade Sorbet is oh so good!

Do yourself a favor and go to the store today to buy them before they are gone.
This flavor is perfect for summer and is so, so good.

Well Miss S and I are about to head to a yoga class at our gym. I think today is
going to be a great day!

I hope your weekend is filled with lots of your favorite things and I hope to see
you back here on Monday!

Check out more Friday Favorites link ups from the week here.
